Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
I was on the "City of Ottawa" website and noticed their "Compost Plus Program", how do I get my area to become involved in a similar program?
A:
You should contact your councillor or municipal solid waste staff and discuss the possibility of a program in your area. In some areas you can also backyard compost. Again, contact your municipality for information on their programs.

How long can I store my filled yard waste bag in my garage before collection?
A:
Providing your kraft bag is filled with mixed yard waste and not just grass, you shouldn't have a problem storing it from 10 to 14 days in your garage or shed.

Should grass be included in the yard waste bags?
A:
You should always check with your municipality to see if they accept grass in their yard waste pick-ups. If they do, you should never fill a kraft bag with only grass, instead, mix it in with the rest of your yard waste.

Q:
I was wondering how to keep the bags from biodegrading before my pick-up date. My municipality has a monthly pick-up only. I worry about my bags of yard waste breaking down on the way to the curb. Any suggestions?

A:
My suggestion is to schedule your yardwork as close to the date of collection as you can. Our bags will work very well in a 10 to 14 day envelope.
