Ottawa Green Bin Program

The Ottawa Green Bin Program is the newest addition to Ottawa’s recycling efforts. Since organic waste such as food scraps and yard clippings make up about 45% of Ottawa’s residential garbage, using your Green Bin improves our environment by recycling organic waste, extending the life of landfills and reducing greenhouse gases.

When you put your organic waste into your green bin, the City takes it to a local state-of-the-art indoor composting facility where the material is transformed into compost suitable for farms, gardens and nurseries.
